TECHNIA reports that SOLIDWORKS Design R2026x FD04 landed on September 12, 2026—the final Functional Delivery of the 2026 year before SOLIDWORKS 2027. FD updates ride the 3DEXPERIENCE cloud path four times a year, roughly aligned with desktop Service Packs. This drop is not another kernel patch tour. It puts Dassault’s LEO virtual companion on the clicks that still burn mechanical teams: exploded views, dumb-solid conversion, assembly instructions, and quick renders.
The headline for CAD floors is automated exploded views through LEO. SOLIDWORKS could already build explodes for diagrams and animations; FD04 lets engineers type a prompt instead of dragging every component and tuning auto-spacing. TECHNIA’s CSWE calls it the most substantial explode upgrade since SOLIDWORKS 2019. LEO and AURA sit behind Cloud Services plus the AI Labs task pane inside Design—so the assistant is wired into the model, not a side chat that cannot see mates.

FD04 also sharpens BREP-to-parametric conversion. Feature recognition is tighter so more complex “dumb” solids become editable SOLIDWORKS parts instead of dead imports that break at the first ECO. That matters whenever STEP or supplier geometry lands on a program that still needs features, mates, and a live feature tree—not a frozen lump.
Assembly-instruction generation—introduced earlier in 2026—now walks users through prompt-and-edit loops and can export step PDFs without leaving Design. Rendering joins the companion lane for Professional seats with the SOLIDWORKS Visualize add-in: through LEO, teams can chase photoreal looks and export PNGs with transparent backgrounds without hunting every Visualize dial. Useful for design reviews; still not a full replacement for commercial Visualize pipelines on final marketing shots.

The metering story sits beside the features. Engineering.com reported that Aura, Leo, and Marie burn blue tokens—packs of 25,000 for $1,250 per year (tokens expire yearly), with about 2,000 free tokens per SOLIDWORKS license. Leo’s hot skills so far are assembly performance analysis, engineering guidance (internally “chatworks”), and drawing generation; a simple aluminum-count query can cost about five to ten cents. Complex generative builds cost more, and custom-trained drawing weights cost more still.
For N23D, FD04 is a clear signal from the incumbent stack: CAD AI is being sold as companion clicks on explodes, BREP recovery, instructions, and renders—while PLM-class companions on 3DEXPERIENCE meter the same way, and Leo’s NC skills already brush CAM. N23D’s contract stays one native Rust binary: geometry that survives edit, PMI and drawings that do not drift from the model, and local-first identity so agents act on the design you own—not a rented token budget that expires on December 31.
